UTS Insearch is the premier pathway provider of the University of Technology Sydney, Australia’s No. 1 young University, and has worked with practicing research academics to bring you a workshop aimed at developing English for Research purposes.

Workshop Structure

Targeted at academics and prospective PhD students who are looking to expand their research influence and identify potential collaborators and/or supervisors. This two-week workshop covers:

  • Introduction to Research Writing: Texts, Contexts and Purposes
  • Research Ethics and Integrity
  • Reading and Writing Literature Reviews
  • Data Skills and Management
  • The Drafting Process
  • Presenting a Conference Paper in English
  • Writing and Submitting a Journal Article in English

This Workshop includes directed teaching as well as self-study. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to work with the teacher and others, on drafts of their own research writing, conference presentations or any other type of research writing or communication that they are working on.

 English Requirement

For this workshop an IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6 in Writing in needed. If a participant does not have an IELTS score, UIG will arrange a placement test.

Our Instructor

Siti Hajar is a PHD graduate from The University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) in Teacher Education and Professional Development. She is passionate about education and this is clearly seen in her own education. Along with her PHD she has a Master of Arts (MA) in Applied Linguistics, TESOL from The University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia and a Master of Education (Med); Leadership and Management from Flinders University, Adelaide Australia.

These degrees coupled with at least five years of experience in researching in education related fields and five years in teacher professional learning and development programs, has enabled Siti to teach and guide others who plan to go on and take a PHD.

She has also taught our 10-week, 200-hour, intensive Academic English 6, English for Research, program with UIG English many times. When she is not teaching she is working on her research and enjoying her family.

She is organized and very helpful when it comes to guiding students. She has many years of teaching in EFL, which has given her lots of experience in dealing with students.
