Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held the LATERAL (Language, Literature, Culture, and Literacy) Webinar Series #6 with the theme “Identity Crisis in Literature” on Saturday (10/17/2020) starting at 9 a.m. through Zoom with 100 participants. This event was hosted by Yohanes Padmo A.N., M.Hum. This webinar invited two speakers: Dyah Eko Hapsari, M.Hum., a lecturer of the Study Program of English Literature FCS UB, and Esther Risma Purba, M.Sc., a lecturer of the Study Program of Japanese Literature FCS UB.
The first material was delivered by Dyah Eko Hapsari who explained American Literature which is a product of multicultural literature. Several things are explained in this material, namely identity in the literature related to genre, religion, class, race and ethnicity, gender, elderly, and sexual orientation. Dyah Eko Hapsari also presented several writers and literary works related to identity in the literary works.
The material was continued by Esther Risma Purba who explained the identity in Japanese literature. Several things are explained in this material: the concept of identity, the discussion of identity issues in Japan today, identity as a discourse and ideology in wartime, literature is a tool to voice and reject the identity discourse, and the relationship of identity in Japanese literary works related to language, culture and literature learning.
The event continued with a question-and-answer session. The participants welcomed this session enthusiastically and immediately asked several things which were immediately answered by the two speakers. [DAF/NP/DTS/MSH/PR FCS][:]
